Chitrakut Mela has a religious and spiritual importance. Chitrakut is of vital importance because the place mentioned in the great Hindu Epic Ramayana. The mela is half in Uttar Pradesh and half in Madhya Pradesh which is the oldest pilgrimage spot in the country. Located on the banks of the Manda-kini River (also known as Paishwani River).
Amavasya (New Moon Days) is also considered as the fasting day by the most Hindu Communities. If Amavasya falls on Monday (Somvar), then it is called as Somvati Amavasya. Tarpan and Shraddha, Kalasarpadosha Puja are other rituals performed on this day.
